I’m so full of gratitude for my tattoo artist Brianne, she really went above and beyond! From ideation to her artwork to her attention to detail and care, she made the experience so smooth. She took her time designing my arm piece and she worked with me tirelessly to make it reflect everything I wanted and more.
This is a really special tribute piece for my brother that I have been wanting to get/have designed for a while has so much meaning (explained in photos) and I am so grateful I get to look at it every day! I am sure I will find even more meaning it it over time, but here is what it was designed with in mind:
Poppies - Anthony and I were born in California and poppies is the state flower. It also symbolizes renewal, adaptability, and optimism. Event after all we went thru growing up and the ups and downs of life Anthony was the most positive and optimistic person I know.
Basil- the leaf and the base of the flowers is a basil leaf since Anthony was a passionate and amazing chef taking after our Grandpa Meehan. If you knew Anthony he was constantly cooking something whether at work or at home. He took his craft very seriously. And it was also his love language. Nothing was simple it was from scratch. Everything he made tasted and looked amazing!
Shamrock -Anthony was so proud of our Irish heritage and went by “The Irish climber” on social media. Green in all shades was his lucky color he wore as often as possible. The 4 leaf clovers are subtle but represent the fun vibe of Anthony and the feeling of finding a 4 leaf clover.
Mountains - the mountain range is the San Francisco peaks where Anthony spent a lot of his time snowboarding while living in Flagstaff for over 20 years. He had season passes off and on and we (me & Brandon) boarded there with Anthony several times together and rode the Gondola on our birthday. Snow Bowl was definitely one of his favorite places to be in the winter. And of course he was a huge fan of mountains in general.
ATM - stands for Anthony Thomas Meehan and his nickname. This is a replica of his handwriting in the tribute he was part of making for his Beaver Street Brewery chefs coat that now hangs on the wall at Brews and Cues by his favorite pool table. I also love seeing “ATM” everywhere and every time I say hi to him.
Eagle - I have seen several mediums since Anthony crossed over and they have all said Anthony’s spirit animal is an eagle. It represents strength, courage, freedom, and a connection to the divine. I think he always felt connected to Eagles and his laptop login photo was an Eagle. And I remember Anthony doing a project related to Eagles growing up in school. I know myself and a lot of Anthony’s friends have seen Eagles in the past couple of years.
Anthony - this is a replica of a photo Ellen took of Anthony several years ago at Wild Bill hot springs in the eastern Sierras. It was Brianne’s idea to connect Anthony’s hand to the vines that travel up and connect to the Eagle as a reminder that he is not gone he is here forever in spirit and is now represented by the eagle.
Icosahedron - Anthony loved electronic music since we were teenagers and the band Odesza was a huge part of his adult play list (and also mine). This is the shape of their logo but also in sacred geometry shape symbolizes the element of water
and represents emotional equilibrium, intuition, and healing. It connects with the energies of flow, movement, and change. He also was a huge geometrical shape and pattern lover. He was into line art drawings, he set routes at the climbing gym, and love playing pool. Also, Anthony was a huge poker player and this is the shape of the poker dice.
